I have been busy remodeling my Old Garage to be used as my Bedroom for many reasons most of them pros. Well one problem I’ve found is that my wifi signal isn’t going to be the best. I run a “media center” from one of my raspberry pi’s hardwired to my router that hosts my anime, movies and music on it and I’ve always wanted more throughput to my NAS(raspberry pi) because wifi is less than stellar for transferring freshly encoded, large video files across. One option I looked at is hardwiring ethernet from my bedroom(where my pc is) to my living room(where the heart of my network is). This option is a pain as it is for many people for many reasons, they live in apartments, dont own their domicile or like me it is on a slab and the attic is in poor condition to be climbing around to add ethernet. I then looked at the state of powerline adapters in the market, and found that one of the more sought after products in my price range is actually a pretty powerful device. The Zyxel av2000 kit is sub-100 dollars and is said to provide a connectivity between units at 2000 mbit with two gigabit connections on the units. My network being gigabit and the product being very affordable I thought I would try this route and report back if the file transfer speed is worth it and if the product is reliable enough to be a decent replacement for the hardwire route. I will report back when I receive the unit in a couple of weeks.
