Dr. Stone on Crunchyroll postulates a bingeworthy intriguing anime story line that will consume your mind

The world is taken in a flash by a mysterious force that turns the human race and birds into stone, ushering in an epoch of stone and world rebirth. One of the main characters, Taiju, awakens to find a note inscribed in a tree leading him to a crude settlement made by his friend from the tech age. The titular nickname “Dr. Stone” is set to describe Senku, a very intelligent high school age boy who can break down most concepts scientifically with ease. Taiju, has a main goal to awaken and tell the girl he loves that he wants to be with her and Senku has a much different idea in mind to create a world of science born out of the world of stone. The boys find out a method to unfreeze people and during the idea ping they are confronted with monstrous beast and have to undo the stone the strongest teen of the time before to help fight the beast. With this seemingly innocuous act we learn that the world of science concept of Senku’s may not be as simple as he thought. There is a small division created between the man of science and the man of brute force nature and with that a war. The plot becomes super vast with this confrontation and reveals the ulterior motive of the story creators that Crunchyroll hit gold with adopting.

Scientific flow chart to simulate the path needed to arrive at a goal created by Senku

The gimmick hidden in the plot device is a deep and rich set of goals each time the nation of science comes to an obstruction in their path to victory. Senku takes what would be easy to do in our world of tech and ease of access and turns it into a flowing set of concrete easier goals that come together to make a “weapon of science” to win the large war between Senku and the beastly nature driven nation. Its the time old tale of brains versus brawn that isn’t always black and white or easy

David and Goliath-esque depiction of Senku Versus Tsukasa

The self-proclaimed logical Senku finds allies along the way that normal people would describe as friends but he would describe them as means to an ends. The rich revitalization of an age old struggle is in my opinion a must for anime lovers and a breath of fresh air to the science themed anime even if the concepts seem simple they become so interesting and vast quick. I started the anime not having an idea how much I would like it. Their is a season 2 confirmed without getting into any spoiler area and if you are anything like me you will be looking forward to it

Anime to fill the void when I’m not building on my PC or playing games

Maple addresses her MMO guild in a game she had no idea she would fall in love with

Currently there are several anime I keep up with as they come out weekly. One new anime that has caught my interest to fill my entertainment block is Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu( I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense). This cutesy anime is about two friends who come together after school to play a VRMMORPG by the name of “New World Online”. The main character this show is about, She goes by the name maple in the virtual realm, is a noob in the gamer realm. She hasn’t had much experience with the more advanced RPG style games obviously so when she is asked to put points into her character attributes she pours all of her starter points into defense unknowingly creating an overpowered character archetype that can’t take damage, moves very slowly and absorbs enemies to get special skills. Her OP character soon finds out that she has so much defense that it actually becomes an offensive weapon. I very quickly fell in love with maples personality as I continued the show as currently I write is at episode 7 if you watch as they come out subbed.

Maple’s quirky attitude brings comic relief in between battles and story progression scenes

Maple’s attitude and character type make her a famous character as she slays through the game easily and makes friends among other odd characters much like herself. I am a big fan of anime where the main character comes from a normal life into a video game or another dimension to be a powerful character. This anime expands on this by taking the danger out of the usual anime style by making the induction into the video game voluntary and no actual damage to the human. This show does have plenty of fan service but so far none of the usual perverted nature fan service, making this anime a kid friendly show that I would recommend to any parent with a child that likes anime. I also would recommend it to any adult that likes anime, It has plenty of action, comedy and fun for anyone to enjoy and keeps me engaged every week as it comes out!

Using My Ryzen 1600 AF Variant and RX 590 to do misc video encoding Jobs FAST!

I often use my new low-mid end GPU and budget level CPU to play games, run hashcat to test password strength, run emulators that utilize vulkan on the GPU to play older gen games buttery smooth and with fps hacks, texture packs to add a whole new face to a good classic. These tasks being the common use for a gaming rig. There were many ideas in mind when building this budget Ryzen build PC, one thing I didn’t think I would care for as much as I do with this machine is tasks like encoding video I have on my HDD, or DVD with handbrake onto my Raspberry pi 4 I have as a server by the router. I would recommend every time, if you have many dvds, the tech and the time/knowledge then get handbrake to play around with encoding your library to keep as digital backup and maybe even ponder the idea of a Plex server for your home network. I use the DLNA option for plex so that my rpi4 uses next to no power and doesn’t have to try hard transcoding on the fly. All of my devices ps4, pc, roku, firestick, have all been able to use the plex server without an issue using the dlna protocol. One thing I’m surprised about is the ability with this CPU is the ability to transcode 1080p video at speeds of over 300 fps! If quality isn’t what I demand in the transcode, then I click on AMD VCE for it to use a technology using my GPU to put its horsepower on the line to get the project done quicker (often 500 or more fps doing 1080p encode). I dont much notice the lost quality when doing the VCE encode but its well documented that utilizing it makes the file a little bigger and degrades quality slightly. I spend so much time these days maximizing how I want my video library encoded and curating my server for my house hold to pull up any device and pull up a personal netflix like interface to play any of our favourite movies and videos. This is a quick and sloppy article, I just wanted to share my glee for a set of hardware I’m happy to have and a hobby that many might be timid of. Don’t be afraid of these concepts, you probably have some videos laying on your harddrive, download handbrake, it is an amazing open source software video converter but has presets for devices like ps4, roku, chromecast and will hold your hand through alot of the more daunting tasks if you need. You will pick this program up and more than likely start to find more and more uses for this free but powerful program!!!!!!

Ryzen 1600 AF Variant

I will begin by saying that I am not a hardcore overclocker. I understand that there is a huge rabbit hole to go down on the subject and I just stand at the top and look in. Understanding just the basics of the system I just play around with the art, finding out if my chip is the better range of the silicon or the lower. On black Friday I spotted that the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 was on a sale for 80 dollars on amazon, that started my idea to start a budget build PC that I have been contemplating for a long time. I purchased the chip and it sat in my dresser until I got a B450m DS3H motherboard from Gigabyte, and 8 GB of 2666 DDR4 memory. I then saw a 590 Fatboy on sale for 179 dollars on the A-site of pocket burning. I was happy with my build, tried games like Witcher 3 ran it on ultra, full settings at over 100 fps at 1080p. As a 1080p monitor is what I have for the system, I was happy. Listening to This Week in Computer Hardware as I always do, I heard the recent episode mention 1600s having a set made with the new zen architecture and all amd did was replace the old chips with a zen architecture binned and clocked at the 1600 specs. I ran to my box that I still had and was happy to see that I had hit the silicon lottery big, as this never happens for me like it does others( I usually end up with the low end). My part number was YD1600BBAFBOX. I quickly jumped on the reddit article (link will be in comments) that seems to be the gathering spot for the people finding out that their 1600 was special in comparison to others experience. I currently have the chip clocked to 3.7 ghz all cores at 1.125 v and it seems to be running stable at a prime95 test I am running while writing the article and I am running a heaven benchmark directx11 all ultra settings so that I can maximize the temperature in my case to test scenarios of the gpu and cpu running at the same time. My cpu has the stock wraith cooler and is running at about 80 degrees Celsius. I plan to get a aio cpu cooler off of amazon so that I can see where this chip can go. Its been nothing but good since I recieved it a couple of months ago. The price seems to have gone up over to over 100 dollars, so i recommend just buying a 2600 hundred at that price point. This seems to be just a good situation for the people who have purchased the chip at 80 dollars and lucked out by the part number that they received. If you have one of these chips, look at the box to see if AF is in the number, you can also look at the chip to see as well. The older less capable version seems to AE on the chip or box. I’m really pleased with this purchase, when all I planned to be was just satiated with a budget deal. I will post an ad for the 1600 currently listed at 85 dollars still on amazon with the magic part number but I’m not sure if the deal will last. I recommend scooping it up

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 65W AM4 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler (YD1600BBAFBOX)

AMD has the price for performance that is unbeatable

The AMD Ryzen 5 1600 I purchased on Black Friday for 89 dollars

I know its been a while since I’ve updated, but I had to jump on to talk about how AMD is transforming the budget PC arena. I wont go much into it now but the AM4 slot for AMD processors has been a game changer. In the AM4 slot has been the very successful Ryzen line of processors. The slot has the basis for selling the hot budget friendly yet beastly 2600x 6 core 12 thread all the way to the beastly Ryzen 9 16 core 32 thread monster. All of this meaning that you could pay a hair over a hundred bucks to get started in the budget gaming spectrum and down the road when you can afford it buy the 3900x then jam it down into the same slot so that you don’t have to rip everything out and start over. Using the same slot for this grand line of processors is just a single point in many. The Ryzen line has been making waves for its price for performance breakthroughs. I recently picked up on Black Friday the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 for 89 dollars. This budget build CPU storms in at 6 cores 12 threads, 3.2 Ghz with a turbo boost of 3.6 Ghz. It doesn’t have the vega graphics like some of the other variants but if you have a discrete GPU lying around then it is a super cheap buy for that budget pc build you are throwing together as a media rig, 1080p gaming or encoding. I purchased the Ryzen 5 to start a build to replace the aging Fm2+ cpu that I use in my day to day den blogging. These processors really are pushing Intel to have to do something as their prices and capabilities are threatened if AMD keeps this up.

Powerline adapters and my upcoming use case

I don’t own this picture and I am not affiliated with Zyxel

I have been busy remodeling my Old Garage to be used as my Bedroom for many reasons most of them pros. Well one problem I’ve found is that my wifi signal isn’t going to be the best. I run a “media center” from one of my raspberry pi’s hardwired to my router that hosts my anime, movies and music on it and I’ve always wanted more throughput to my NAS(raspberry pi) because wifi is less than stellar for transferring freshly encoded, large video files across. One option I looked at is hardwiring ethernet from my bedroom(where my pc is) to my living room(where the heart of my network is). This option is a pain as it is for many people for many reasons, they live in apartments, dont own their domicile or like me it is on a slab and the attic is in poor condition to be climbing around to add ethernet. I then looked at the state of powerline adapters in the market, and found that one of the more sought after products in my price range is actually a pretty powerful device. The Zyxel av2000 kit is sub-100 dollars and is said to provide a connectivity between units at 2000 mbit with two gigabit connections on the units. My network being gigabit and the product being very affordable I thought I would try this route and report back if the file transfer speed is worth it and if the product is reliable enough to be a decent replacement for the hardwire route. I will report back when I receive the unit in a couple of weeks.

My interaction with Linksys (hint: it doesn’t end well)

Basically there is a very large, dangerous vulnerability in vxworks that has been there for decades. Since this system has always been closed source there hasn’t been much opportunity to audit the code. Well I own one of the wrt54 routers that notoriously runs vxworks. Meaning this router has always been susceptible to this vulnerability. I contacted Linksys to see what they would do, patch my device or tell me to throw it in the trash. As soon as I contacted them they thought I was talking about a bad packets vulnerability. I said no this is a very dangerous thing that is apart of any internet facing vxworks devices. Continuing I said this is a big issue that needs to be patched and people need to be aware since many of these devices run on the internet still and have never received a patch. They said well IF your device runs on vxworks then you could run openwrt or ddwrt on it, either way it’s an unsupported product. Understandable that it’s unsupported but I had to say that the vxworks models are notorious for not running openwrt and the ddwrt route is a method not friendly to the average user since you have to do a vxworks killer method that tools may not even be available on the internet anymore to do this. I am one person that has already done this to obtain the very stripped down version of ddwrt but many people can’t do this, won’t do this and don’t even know they should be fixing this issue. I’m kind of disappointed by Linksys response to this as I’ve always respected and enjoyed their products. If you have a vxworks product then I suggest you look for a patch or otherwise pull your device from the internet!

Fellow Tech-ians, random Update to make up for the last few days

Arma 3, Showcase mission because I’m a zero level scrub

I haven’t updated in a few days as many things have piqued my interest! I finally obtained Arma 3 after a long time of salivating over the youtubers playing an awesome military sim with me being left wishing I could play. To anyone without this game but a capable computer, I really suggest purchasing this game from steam or obtaining it through any other means. I will probably put an amazon link for a disc version. This game is a very stimulating, very challenging simulator game. It isn’t like Call of Duty, or Battlefield, this game will challenge you as a gamer, as a tactician, and in tons of other ways. The game from the inputs to the scope of realism is deep. Their are hundreds of inputs to learn or to customize since you can operate many real military vehicles, use many weapons, use all kinds of commands and support systems, go through deep realistic custom and set missions, control with many kinds of pc input systems like trackIr, and flight sticks, and you can from the ground up do just about anything a military fighter could do to operate the mission. This game is very detailed and updated to offer just about anything a military fan would need or want in there sim game. I highly recommend it. I have for days been trying to learn the scope and input of the game and customize it to my liking as I would some day like to join a realism group or play with a friend on a custom mission. This game is everything I thought it would be and more.

TrackIr 5 Premium Head Tracking for Gaming

Arma 3 wasn’t available in amazon for a disc copy you will have to get it on steam. I do have a link for trackIr though. An amazing pc product. An update on my Nerd Hobbies

As you guys know I got my raspberry pi 4 that I have been wanting ever since it was announced. As there wasn’t a stable release of dietpi(A flavour of raspbian that is minimized, optimized for the pi) you have to peek a bit to get a raspberry pi4 capable versihttps://dietpi.com/downloads/images/DietPi_RPi-ARMv6-Buster.7zon. Listed in the issues on the github is a link for now . https://dietpi.com/downloads/images/DietPi_RPi-ARMv6-Buster.7z here is a link if you want to check it out and have a rpi4. The very awesome dev behind dietpi updated the image to buster and did the very things necessary to boot the hw of the pi4. So far Im very impressed with the hardware of this single board computer. I got the very affordable 2gb model since I would be using it for a headless server. Im not sure if you’d need all 4gb for a desktop use case but I would say that you would need at least the 2gb model and preferably the 4gb. I would 100 percent buy this board all over again and now have it running as my plex server for my nephew, my dlna server to serve up anime to my ps4 and as an ssh headless linux server just in case I need to mess around with a linux program or some source code and dont want to get up to my computer. I just ssh into my pi4 and go to town. Gigabit Ethernet, quad core 1.5ghz cpu, 2 gb of ram, 3.0 usb connected to a usb3 HDD, and ac wireless just in case I need to connect wirelessly in a use case. The pi is at an awesome spot in the computing world, and has evolved into a budget friendly alternative to a big rig desktop computer.

My raspberry pi 4 is in!!! \m/

Note the cheap case I had to settle for since there are next to none available

Ever since the raspberry pi 4 had been announced I have killed off any other choice I had to upgrade my homemade NAS. If you read my previous article you’d know that I was about to settle on one of the odroids, or the pine line of single board computers. I had to purchase a cheap case from one of the handful of manufacturers that make rpi4 cases now or have a line of cases that just so happen to work with the new line of Pi’s. Mine just so seems to be the latter but I’m happy with it. It was around eight dollars and has a fan. Pair that with the canakit that I got with heatsinks to place on the chips that get hot and you get a board that struggles just to stay 50 degrees Celsius. To need a fan and heatsinks to stay that hot is a new problem to the rpi line. It’s a safe temperature but I really recommend that you get something with a fan because just heatsinks may not cut it this time(I’ll have links at the bottom for the kit I got and the case I found to go along with it). I immediately grabbed the test buster image for dietpi and plugged it up to my router to see the performance of the gigabit port that I’m so happy to finally have!!! I’m not going to do hardcore testing but will definitely throw real world scenarios at it. I’m installing and setting up Plex server, minidlna, and nfs for my various video servers. The 1.5 ghz quad processor, gigabit Ethernet, ac wireless and USB 3.0 all make for great ingredients for my use of it as a NAS(network attached storage). I’m still waiting on my new HDD to come in. I’m getting a Seagate 3.5 HDD to replace the 2.5 drive I have in my computer. When I have it out I have a 3.0 USB enclosure coming today for the 2.5 HDD, I’ll then use that with the powerful 3.0 USB ports on the pi to have the final piece to my NAS. I haven’t got to test yet but I’ve read the USB write speed is outstanding with the 3.0 addition. The pi has finally made it to the place of replacing your work computer with everything except for the capability of gaming for under 50 dollars. The raspberry pi has always been a very useful utility but it has evolved into such a powerful affordable piece of tech. Order one for your next project, order one to keep in your drawer, order one for a friend. If you want to learn Linux, or are a command line guru this is still a board for you. I got the 2 gb board but it’s available in 1 gb, 2gb, or all the way up to 4gb.

Here is a canakit with an official case. I truly advise getting a canakit because of the power supply you need for the pi is specific on the 4 and the canakit has a very good one
